One of the many small things that makes The Dale a great place to work are the little catch-phrases we sometimes use to describe our goings-on at The Dale. “Just another day at The Dale” is perhaps most common, as each day brings some new (and sometimes whacky) experience that is somehow part of the fabric of who we are.
As we have sought creative (and safe) ways to continue our unique work in the Parkdale neighbourhood, new catch-phrases have started to emerge. “Making it work” has been a notable addition to our Dale-ism’s. It’s so strange, this time we’re living in right now. COVID-19 has completely changed every facet of human life. It has touched us all, regardless as to whether we have contracted the virus or not.
So far, we’ve managed to keep going at The Dale even though our weekly routines have completely changed as we navigate these new waters. There’s plenty I wish I could change about our current outlook, but in reality there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. On the flip side, there continues to be an out-pouring of love from a great many people involved with The Dale, and together we seem to be finding new ways to love one another and meet the needs of those in our community.
Perhaps the toughest part of our “new normal” has been the physical (and social) distancing. As an extrovert who likes giving and receiving hugs, I have found myself having to work hard to keep appropriate distances at all times. In fact I think this is generally something that so many among our number struggle with. It’s just so natural to draw closer to one another, and to congregate in some way. There’s no substitute for relationships, for a community of love. We’re loving the best way we can right now, understanding that we are operating in “less-than-ideal” circumstances.
We’re making it work! (Just a little longer)…
